What Spreadsheet Server is

Spreadsheet Server is a reporting tool that connects to over 140 ERP systems and surfaces data inside Excel. For teams whose primary need is refreshable financial reports and drilldown, it works. Some have been on it for over a decade.

But there are real constraints worth understanding before you evaluate it for Sage Intacct.

It installs as a Windows COM add-in. No Mac, no Excel Online. Setup requires IT to configure a network share and a security file before finance teams can use it, and that infrastructure requires ongoing maintenance. Issues with formula links or security configuration go back to IT to resolve.

Spreadsheet Server does not write back to Sage Intacct. It’s a read-only reporting tool. Pushing journals, updating budgets, or managing allocations from Excel requires a separate insightsoftware product. It’s the same pattern Jet Reports users hit with Bizview: you solve one problem and take on another product to manage.

Supporting 140+ ERPs is a genuine capability. It’s also why depth in any single one has limits.

What Velixo does instead

Velixo is not a broad, multi-ERP reporting platform. It supports a small number of ERPs, Sage Intacct among them, and goes significantly deeper in each one than a general-purpose tool can.

The connection to Intacct is direct via API. No sync jobs, no staging tables, no warehouse. When your team opens a workbook and pulls data, it reflects what’s in Intacct at that moment. There’s nothing to maintain in between.

The add-in runs on Windows, Mac, and Excel Online. IT is not required to get started, and day-to-day report building and maintenance doesn’t require IT involvement.

Writeback is built in, not a separate product. Journals, budgets, forecasts, allocations, project estimates, and universal writeback scenarios all happen in Excel and push directly to Intacct. The full reporting and planning workflow lives in one place.

Purpose-built for Sage Intacct finance teams

Velixo’s Intacct integration isn’t adapted from a generic ERP connector. It’s built around how Intacct data is actually structured: dimensions, entities, projects, books, with functions that behave like Excel formulas and drilldown that resolves directly to Intacct transaction detail.

That depth shows up in the template library. Velixo ships production-ready templates built specifically for Intacct finance workflows: GAAP-aligned statements of activities and financial position, statement of functional expenses with IRS 990 localization, net asset rollforward for restricted funds, grant and project financial binders, unbilled projects and grants tracking, and allocation tools with one-click journal writeback. These aren’t starting points that require significant build-out. They reflect what Intacct finance teams actually run.

Spreadsheet Server’s breadth across 140 ERPs is a genuine capability. It’s also why depth in any single one has limits.

Common questions from teams evaluating Spreadsheet Server

We're on Windows and don't need Mac or web access. Does the platform difference matter?

It might not matter today. It’s worth considering whether your team’s work patterns are changing: more remote work, more Mac users on the team, finance staff accessing workbooks from outside the office. Velixo’s add-in works the same across all three environments without any additional configuration.

We have reports built in Spreadsheet Server that we've used for years. How disruptive is switching?

The honest answer is that some rebuild is involved. Spreadsheet Server formula syntax doesn’t transfer directly to Velixo. But the underlying report logic and workbook structures usually translate faster than teams expect, because Velixo functions are cell-based and familiar to anyone who knows Excel. Teams typically find that rebuilding a report in Velixo also makes it easier to maintain going forward.

We want to add budgeting eventually. Can Velixo handle that?

Yes, and it’s included rather than a separate product. Budget writeback to Sage Intacct, forecast updates, allocation journals, and project estimate management are all part of Velixo’s core workflow. You don’t need to evaluate and purchase a second tool when you’re ready to move beyond reporting.

Spreadsheet Server connects to our other ERPs too. Can Velixo do the same?

Velixo currently supports Sage Intacct, Acumatica, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, MYOB Acumatica, and a small number of other ERPs. If your organization runs multiple ERP systems and needs a single reporting tool across all of them, it’s worth discussing which ERPs are in scope.
